East Japan Railway Company is one of the biggest passenger train companies in the world. The company was founded in 1987 when Japan’s national railway company was privatized and split. Besides running regional and interregional train connections JREast builds and operates office towers, hotel buildings, and shopping centers. In 2020, on average 12,296 trains transported 17.8 million passengers per day.
