Fuck the Paytriarchy: The Tomorrow Event on Finance and Feminism

Published February 10, 2025

The paytriarchy keeps women down financially - unequal pay, dependencies, less pension. We want to talk about why we are making such slow progress here, how this affects women every day and what the solutions could be - and more. At our three-day event in Hamburg in February.

When we talk about women and finances, we usually talk about individual solutions: Investing, negotiating salary, training. None of this is wrong - but it obscures the fact that financial gender inequality is a structural problem that cannot be solved on its own.

That's why we want to draw attention to precisely these patriarchal structures in the financial system with a three-day event. Because the unequal distribution of money in our society has a massive impact on women's lives - and not just when the issue of poverty in old age becomes a reality. It already has a very concrete impact on their first jobs, their everyday lives, their life decisions and how they look to their future.

The paytriarchy: what exactly do we mean by this?

Patriarchy is a social system that is shaped, controlled and represented by men. This also goes hand in hand with discrimination against women. So when we talk about paytriarchy, we want to put the spotlight on a male-dominated system that still shapes our financial world today. This is precisely what ensures that money and power continue to be - and remain - unequally distributed.

To this day, men have more money at their disposal. We still live in private and professional structures that favor men. To this day, men do significantly less unpaid work than women.

At the expense of women: About gaps, dependencies and unequal opportunities

Women pay the price: they earn less, work more, have less financial leeway and are dependent on others. This results, for example, in the gender pay gap, the gender care gap or the gender lifetime earning gap, which show in concrete figures how far we still have to go to achieve real equality of opportunity.

In fact, the topic is worryingly topical. The rise of right-wing (extreme) forces in this country and globally means that women's rights and equality issues are once again being questioned or put on the back burner in favor of other issues. As a result, the step backwards sometimes seems almost closer than the step forwards.

Fuck the Paytriarchy - The Tomorrow Event in Hamburg

That's why we want to come together with you and make paytriarchy the topic for three days. From February 28 to March 2, we are organizing an event for you in Hamburg with a great program: from a panel on feminist finance with Aya Jaff, Mareice Kaiser, Ole Liebl and Rim Melake, moderated by Maria Popov, to a Flinta comedy stage in cooperation with SCHNACK Stand-up Comedy, to workshops on tax topics together with Taxfix, to a DIY program and a party with a DJ set by KAPRI.  All updates on further details regarding the program items and panelists will follow on Instagram and our event overview at Rausgegangen.

In addition, with a new round-up project and the profits from our merch sales in cooperation with Women for Women International, we will be directing money to where it will specifically support women. Women for Women International helps women who have survived war to build a new life for themselves. The organization provides knowledge and resources to help women provide for themselves and their families, thereby strengthening their communities.

So book your free ticket here and come along!
